Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: The Summary

This is the twenty-ninth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

Our last day in Hong Kong is spent fixing our things because our flight was at 10:40 am. So there was no time to do anything else.

We boarded bus N21/N21A to arrive to HKIA. The trip took about 30 minutes since it was early in the morning. When we arrived at HKIA, we checked-in our bags and explored the airport. There was a Disneyland store inside and what’s surprising is that the price of the items there are just the same as in the park.

Our plane arrived on time and with a heavy heart, we left Hong Kong promising to go back again. The flight was uneventful and we arrived just in time.

And that ends our Hong Kong-Macau Adventure!

Hong Kong is a nice place with lots of tourists’ spots to explore. The first thing we observed about Hong Kong is that it is a very “tourist-friendly” place. Signs are everywhere pointing you to wherever you want to go and it is both in Chinese and English. The Octopus Card is an amazing thing and the MTR is just so easy to use. Be prepared to walk a lot! Macau is a quaint and peaceful place and if you have the time, go here even if it is just for one day. There are so much more to see in Macau compared to what we have explored so I think it is better if you stay there overnight.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: Tsim Sha Tsui Area and Avenue of the Stars

This is the twenty-eighth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

When we arrived at the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, we bought some Salonpas for our aching feet and muscles haha. Then we headed on to the Sogo Mall located in Salisbury Road. The mall is located underground and opened last 2005. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was near closing time so we were not able to explore fully. But, for us, this is a better mall compared to those high-end stores.

After our mall tour, we walked towards the Avenue of the Stars. Avenue of the Stars is a 400-meter long stretch of waterside promenade along the northern side of Victoria Harbour and in front of the New World Centre at Tsim Sha Tsui. The Avenue is based on the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and it takes tribute to the stars of the Hong Kong film industry. All over the floor of the avenue are different plaques emblazoned with names of famous HK actors and actresses. There are also different sculptures of notable stars, souvenir kiosks, food carts, and interesting HK tidbits all around the avenue. You can also see the HK skyline from here.

We were not able to explore the whole of Avenue of Starts because our feet were killing us so we just took some pictures, rested a bit, and headed on to shop around the TST area. We had a jackpot shopping at the Giordano store which has tshirts costing only 100hkd. We were also able to buy different things at the Bonjour store in TST.

After that, we opted to have our dinner in Yoshinoya at TST. We bought the beef bowl set which costs 35hkd. It was delicious and it was huge, 2 persons could share one set meal. After eating, we explored some more stores and then finally, called it a night.

Up next, our flight back to Manila and a summary of our Hong Kong-Macau Trip.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: IFC Mall and Harbor Times Square

This is the twenty-seventh part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

From the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, we again walked the bridgeway going to IFC Mall. IFC is a prominent landmark which consists of 2 skyscrapers, the IFC mall, and the 55-storey Four Seasons Hotel HK. This is the 4th tallest building the Greater China region and the 8th tallest office building in the world.

We did not spend a lot of time here because the stores are too expensive and high-end. We just ended up buying an iced cappuccino (28hkd) and a regular fries (10hkd) from McDonalds. Then we headed on back to the bridgeway to get to Central Road to ride the Ding-Ding Tram.

When we got to the Central area, we exchanged some of our money to HKD since we are running low on cash. We read on other blogs that the exchange rate in World Wide Plaza is good so we decided to head there. The building is just beside the Central MTR entrance. Look for Dai Sing Bank and the World Wide Plaza sign, the money changer is just on the second floor.

When we got there, there were still a lot of people but we still rode it to experience it at last. It was a fun ride, a bit slow, but it was relaxing to just look out the window and see different parts of Hong Kong. The fun part in this ride is that we had no idea where to get off haha, so we just decided to trust our instincts. Fortunately, our instincts were correct because we were able to get off the terminal near the Harbor Times Square in Causeway Bay.

During that time, they have a Gundam display in front of the mall which was awesome. But, we also did not spend a lot of time there because the shops are also too expensive. We just explored the shops within the area. One of our favorite is the Bonjour shop because it was cheap and there are various things for sale such as cosmetics, food, etc. After, we opted to go back to the Tsim Sha Tsui area thru the MTR to explore more shopping area there and to go to the Avenue of the Stars.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: Disney in the Stars Fireworks and Souvenir Shopping

This is the eighteenth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

After exploring Hong Kong Disneyland, we decided to buy souvenirs and then find a good place for the Disney fireworks. The best place to watch the Disney in the Stars Fireworks is at Main Street U.S.A. The show starts at 9:00 pm but you have to check the website prior to going there to be sure that you would get the right time.

Before we settled down to watch, we decided to try those amazing looking “Mickey Mouse Waffle” that they’re selling in Main Street U.S.A. It costs 50hkd. Please do not waste 50hkd for that haha. It looks good, but it’s not. It actually does not have any taste. We also tried the egg tart which costs 16hkd in one of the bakeries in the Main Street U.S.A but it is also not worth it.

After that, we did some souvenir galore shopping! And there were so many things to buy, some expensive, some worth for the price. And we bought a lot! The only downside to this is that there were so many people in the stores because of the upcoming fireworks display.

After filling up our bags with souvenirs, we searched for a place to settle in and watch the fireworks. The fireworks show is an amazing array of music, laser, and pyrotechnics and is choreographed together with various Disney theme music. It was beautiful! You would literally have tears on your eyes while watching. I wasn’t able to take photos because, again, my camera sucks at night and I just wanted to watch the show without any distractions. The show lasted for around 15 minute and more and then after that, it was a mad rush back to the MTR, a really mad rush! People were everywhere! And we wanted to get to the MTR before they do. Unfortunately, when we got there, our Octopus Card ran out of credit so we had to fall in line to refill it, which took a lot of time.

Anyway, we headed to the Mong Kok Night market for a bit of shopping time. From the Disneyland train, alight at Sunny Bay Interchange. Ride the Tung Chung line train and get off at Lai King interchange to switch to the Tsuen Wan Line. Get off at Mong Kok Station and start shopping.

But before that, we saw a Café de Coral branch and decided to have some dinner. I forgot the name of the dish but it was good and it costs 40hkd. After that, we explored the night market but it was already closing because we got there a bit too late. We decided to walk up to the Tsim Sha Tsui area, but it was a very, very bad idea. Do not do it! Just ride a bus or the MTR.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: Mystic Point in HK Disneyland

This is the seventeenth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

The last area we visited was the Mystic Point. This is the most recent land opened at Hong Kong Disneyland. It features exotic travels, mysterious mansion, and supernatural buildings and happenings. Mystic Point also features two new characters, Lord Henry and his monkey Albert. We weren’t able to take a lot of pictures because it was already night time when we got there and my camera sucks during night times.

MYSTIC MANOR
This is Lord Henry’s Victorian mansion which houses extensive collection of paraphernalia from his many travels around the world. We really wanted to fall in line even if the waiting time was more than an hour but we opted to skip it to see the Disney Fireworks. This ride features a carriage which brings you through a whirlwind of special effects and surprises.

GARDEN OF WONDERS
This is located besides the Mystic Manor. It features great props reminiscent of antique sculptures and treasures that can be used for 3D illusion photography. We weren’t able to take pictures there because it was dark at that time.

After this, we rode the Disneyland Train from Fantasyland going to the station near the entrance. It was surprising because there weren’t any people. When we arrived at Main St. USA, we found out why. Everyone was here waiting for the fireworks show haha.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: Grizzly Gulch in HK Disneyland

Cowboy Themed Buildings

This is the sixteenth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

Grizzly Gulch is an Old American Wild West Town complete with mining mountains, golden nuggets, gushing geysers, and Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale in their Old Wild West costumes. It also features a Big Grizzly Mountain as a backdrop.

The area has 2 sections: a quiet path overlooking Grizzly Gulch, and a bustling town which is near Mystic Point. In the town area, there are numerous buildings disguised as restaurants and restrooms, designed like a Wild West place. There are also different shows here but we were not able to catch them at the time that we were there.

BIG GRIZZLY MOUNTAIN RUNAWAY MINE CARS
This ride is at the center of Grizzly Gulch. It is a mine car roller coaster with twists, twirls, turns, and bends, with forward and backward movement. This is a very popular ride hence the very long queues. But there is a single-rider line if you want a faster time to get in the ride.

GEYSER GULCH
The entire area of Grizzly Gulch has been built on an “active geyser basin” which is like the Yellowstone National Park there are also erupting geysers like the Old Faithful. At the time we were there, the Geyser Gulch was closed or turned off. Sad.

This is the area’s quick service restaurant.

There are also other buildings featuring water cannons which could be used to have a fun, water adventure for kids and even adults.

Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: Toy Story Land in HK Disneyland

This is the fifteenth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

Toy Story Land is one the newest additions in Hong Kong Disneyland which opened last 2011. As the name implies, it’s all about the Toy Story show. Everywhere you look, you would see toy soldiers, blocks, alphabet letters, tinker toys, and of course, the Toy Story characters such as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, Bullseye, Hamm, Slinky, Mr and Mrs. Potato Head. It depicts a backyard like area with scattered toys all around. It’s really amazing.

Stepping in this area would cause you to be nostalgic for the Toy Story shows. There are also a lot of rides featured both for young and old children alike. Unfortunately, we were not able to ride any attractions, again, due to long waiting time. All we did was just to take pictures and be amazed at the designs everywhere.

SLINKY DOG SPIN
Slink is Andy’s springy dachschund dog which stretches, coils, tangles, and untangles. In this attraction, you get to ride a huge slinky dog and you go round and round. A bit of a kiddy ride. I really wanted to try this ride but long lines prevented us to.

TOY SOLDIER PARACHUTE DROP
As the name implies, this is a drop ride. But not as severe as other drop rides. It’s shaped like the parachutes of the toy soldiers in the movie and you get to ride the parachute, then it raises you to the top, about 25 meters high, and then descends gently down. It looked really fun.

RC RACER
This is a rollercoaster-like ride that goes up and down a half-pipe track. It is like the Anchors Away ride in Star City in Manila.

There are also different areas where Woody and the rest of the gang can take pictures with you. It was a real shame we were not able to ride any of the attractions there.

After some picture taking in Toy Story Land, we ventured on to the next area of the park which is the Grizzly Gulch.
