Hong Kong-Macau Adventure: HK Disneyland & Main Street USA

This is the ninth part of our 4-days-3-nights Hong Kong-Macau Adventure.

The one thing I was really, really excited about Hong Kong is going to the Happiest Place on Earth, which is Disneyland! Anyway, after lunch at the Citygate outlets we went straight there.

How to go to Disneyland:
  1. Ride the Tung Chung MTR Line and get off at the Sunny Bay interchange
  2. Just across the line is the “Mickey Mouse” train or the Disneyland Resort Train
  3. And that’s it!

It’s easier if you’re from Ngong Ping Village like we did because the Sunny Bay interchange is just one MTR away from Tung Chung MTR Station where the Cable Car is.

Hong Kong Disneyland is located in Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island which is a reclaimed land. It is in the same island as the Ngong Ping Village is so it’s a bit convenient to squeeze in both of these sites in a day if you want.

The HK Disneyland adventure starts with the Mickey Mouse train. We were like kids again when we saw the train haha. The windows were shaped like a Mickey Mouse head and when you enter, it was just Disney everywhere! There were statues there showing Minnie Mouse, Mickey, and other Disney characters. And the one thing I found really amazing was the handle of the trains was also shaped like Mickey Mouse. It was so cute. I was smiling the whole time we were in the train.

And then after around 15minutes or so, we finally arrived at Disneyland. I wanted to run towards the park and just spin around and around like I did when I first saw Universal Studios. Unfortunately, I was not able to do it because when we got to the famous “Disneyland” sign, there were just so, so, so many people! But that didn’t stop us in doing a pose and taking pictures haha.

The walk towards the gate of Disneyland is a bit long but you won’t get bored because there are benches and signposts all around with pictures of different Disney characters. Again, I reverted back to my childhood days and just enjoyed walking and reminiscing about my past favorite Disney movies.

At the end of that walk is a huge fountain with a whale sprouting Mickey Mouse upwards. Again, I was just so giddy and happy all over!

Anyway, we arrived at the gate at around 1:00 p.m. so that’s half a day lost, fortunately, we did not have to fall in line at the ticket counter because we already bought our tickets at Golden Crown Court. Again, tickets are being sold there at a way cheaper price! We bought ours at only 400hkd/ticket compared to the 450hkd that Disneyland is selling. Downside is it has no meal tickets/vouchers but it is still 50hkd cheaper!

A bit of advice, it is not allowed to bring in heavy meals inside the theme park (ie rice, etc.). We did bring in a pack of cookies but the lady in the gate did not confiscate it so I guess it was allowed. It was our “emergency” food (in tagalong, pangtawid gutom na pagkain haha) since we know how expensive the food inside the park is.

And then, we’re inside! The park has seven themed areas: Main Street U.S.A., Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch, and Mystic Point. Don’t forget to get free maps in the entrance. Maps are your best friend in a place like this!

This is directly after the entrance

MAIN STREET U.S.A.
Immediately after the entrance is the Main Street U.S.A. where you would see America in its 20th century glory. It’s filled with different buildings that are designed to look like you’re in the 1890-1910 USA. It’s so lively and fun to just stroll around there. This is also where most of the souvenir shops are found. One of the entrances/stops of the Disneyland Railroad is also located here but we decided to just ride it later because the lines were just too long. This is also the place where the Waterworks Parade/Flights of Fantasy Parade goes and the place where you could see properly the famous “Disney in the Stars” fireworks in the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Before we got to Disneyland, we decided to just prioritize the shows first before the rides. So the first thing we did when we got there was to look at the schedules in the maps and plan out how to do it properly haha. So we first headed off to the Festival of the Lion King show located at the Adventureland.

Up next, our adventurous time at Adventureland of HK Disneyland!
