Adventureland is the biggest compared to other Disney parks. It the large Tarzan’s Treehouse and is cicrcled by the Jungle River Cruise ride. This is also where the “Festival of the Lion King” show is featured in the “Theater in the Wild”. This is where we got our first surprise moment. There were just so many people lining up! Well, “lining up” is not the proper term to use at that time; it was just a bunch of people all cramped up together trying to beat each other to enter the show. It was a riot when they opened the gates! People were just running and bumping to each other just to get inside the theater. It was a major turn-off! Luckily, J is used to that kind of “singitan” galore moment so we were able to get some decent seats inside.
FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING
The Festival of the Lion King is, for us, the best show in HK Disneyland. It is a live stage musical interpretation of the Lion King film. The show uses songs, dance, and amazing visual effects and it portrays an African tribal celebration centering on Rafiki (portrated by a female actress) re-telling Simba’s life to Simba which is represented by a large puppet on a parade-style float decorated as Pride Rock. The show is mainly in English which is nice for us tourists, but there are two actors dressed as monkey which translates the story into Cantonese. The puppet Simba was amazing, its roar is so life-like. There are other huge puppets featured as well such as elephants, giraffes, etc. Timon and Pumba were also there! We were teary eyed in some parts especially the part where Simba and Nala were singing the “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”. There is even a girl doing acrobatics while on the air which was very dramatic. All in all, the show was really great and is a must-see when you’re in HK Disneyland.
TARZAN’S TREEHOUSE
Anyway, after the show we saw that the line towards the Tarzan’s Treehouse was short so we decided to try it out. It was a huge treehouse on an island with various statues depicting Tarzan characters which you will see while going up. To go there, you have to ride a raft. It was OK but I think it’s really for kids.
THE JUNGLE RIVER CRUISE
The line to this ride was long so we were not able to try it out. Guests ride a boat wherein a safari guide takes you on a river adventure through the jungles of the world. This goes around the Tarzan’s Treehouse. It was fun because whenever a boat goes by the Treehouse, guests are waving “hi” at other guests.
LIKI TIKIS
This is an area with different totems that spits out water and steam which is a nice place to cool off.
After that, we scrambled on to Main Street U.S.A. to find a spot for us to watch the Waterworks parade. Up next!
