The Ultimate Kuala Lumpur-Singapore Vacation Leave: Climbing the Kuala Lumpur Tower

This is the eleventh part of our 6-days-5-nights Ultimate KL-Singapore Vacation Leave.

After the wonderful afternoon at Putrajaya, we went off to venture to the famous Kuala Lumpur Tower or Menara KL Tower. The ride from Putrajaya to KL Sentral was a bit long this time due to traffic, and because we left Putrajaya at a rush hour, so it took around 2 hours to get back to the city. Unfortunately, when we arrived at KL tower, it was already night time, though some people would prefer to view the city at night due to the lights, I prefer viewing buildings at day time. But, since we already purchased our tickets online, we had to really go to the tower. The tickets cost RM52 per person which was at around 585php.

Getting to KL Tower is quite easy since it's in the center of the city. One could opt to take a taxi, however, for those in a budget, here's how to get to KL tower coming from KL Sentral:
  • Get to the KL Monorail Station and board it to go towards Bukit Nanas Station (the 6th station from KL Sentral, fare of RM4.10/person)
  • Get off Bukit Nanas Station. Go down the stairs and look for the exit station located near a traffic light junction, turn right and walk straight. You would know you're on the right road if you see landmarks such as the Hard Rock Cafe on your left, as well as the Concorde Hotel.
  • Walk further down until you see the Shangrila Hotel on your right. Go straight until you see another traffic light junction and to your left is a police booth station, turn right and walk straight.
  • Prominent landmark is the Menara Hap Seng on your left. Once you reach the 3rd junction of Jalan P. Ramlee, corner of Jalan Punchak, turn right and walk up the hill.
  • Look for the guard house with the Menara KL Free Shuttle Service which will take you up the tower

Alternate route is as follows:
  • Get to the KL Monorail Station and get off the Raja Chulan Station (fare of RM3.70/person). The exit leads to Jalan Tengah.
  • Walk straight along Jalan Tengah until you reach the interception of Jalan P. Ramlee. Buildings along the way are ING Tower, MIDF Tower, The Weld, Hap Seng Tower.
  • When you reach the interception between Jalan Tangah and Jalan P. Ramlee, cross the street and continue walking into Jalan Puncak.
  • Walk up the hill until you see a guard house. Shuttle bus is located there.

KL Tower is the 7th tallest tower in the world. The tower stands 421 meters and also contains a revolving restaurant, providing diners with a panoramic view of the city. The Observation Deck is at 276 meters above ground level and is open to the public to see the view of the KL city. It is open everyday from 9:00am to 10:00pm. The fee is RM52 for adults and RM31 for children. Exploring the deck has no time limit, so you could enjoy the view and rest for a bit if you want.

The reason why I didn't want to go at night was because taking pictures are a bit hard compared to when it's day time. My camera is just not good at night shots. It's a pity because I really wanted to take a picture of the Petronas Twin Towers from the KL Tower, I was able to, but it was a blurry shot. Also, featured on the observation deck is a really cool lighted up picture of the comparison of the tallest towers in the world. You can also rent headphones with audio commentary about the tower, but be sure to tell them that you want an english speaking commentary.

Another area in the KL tower is the Sky Deck, which is located at 421 meters above ground level. This is an open deck, meaning no glass around you to protect you from falling off haha. However, there is a rope tied to you to prevent that from happening. Not recommended for those with fear of heights, like us! It costs RM99 (1,110php) for adults. There is also the 360 Atmosphere Restaurant which is located 282 meters above ground level. You could have dinner here while the restaurant rotates 360 degrees for you to view the whole of KL. There is also the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve at the bottom of the tower which we weren't able to go because it was already closed, so if you are there earlier, don't forget to visit this place. It's for free, and it is reported to be very beautiful.

We explored for about 30minutes then decided to go down and have dinner with my friend. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the restaurant we ate at because it was at this time that a really painful migraine attacked me, coupled with nausea and vomiting. The only thing I could remember was the food looked really, really good, but I wasn't able to eat it because I was vomiting at the mall's restroom. So, yeah, that kinda sucked!

Up next, our 3rd day at Malaysia, the trip going to Singapore, and our Malaysia trip summary!
