The Ultimate Kuala Lumpur-Singapore Vacation Leave: First Breakfast at KL and How to Go to Batu Caves

This is the sixth part of our 6-days-5-nights Ultimate KL-Singapore Vacation Leave.

On The Way to Batu Caves!

For our second day in KL, our original itinerary was to go to Batu Caves, then head on to Genting Highlands, then to Merdeka Square, and then to Chinatown or Bukit Bintang again. And we just realized that it was not doable and it was super toxic haha. So we decided to skip Genting Highlands and go first to Batu Caves. After which, we will be meeting my friend who is working in KL so she could show us around. Her itinerary was after Batu Caves, we will be going to KL tower and then to Putrajaya. Which was a plus because according to several blogs, Putrajaya is a bit far from the city center and near the airport. Our original plan was to check-in at the airport first then go to Putrajaya which was, again, very very toxic, so hurray for changed itineraries!

Good morning KL! View from our hotel room

Before heading out to go to Batu Caves, we first availed the free breakfast that MyHotel has to offer. Their breakfast place is just right beside the hotel called Restoran Jaya. They have a list of the free breakfast, unfortunately, we weren't able to take a picture. But I ordered Nasi Lemak, which is a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and panda leaf. It is said to be the national dish of Malaysia. My Nasi Lemak included one boiled egg and lots of little fish (dilis in tagalog haha). J ordered Kaya Toast, which is bread prepared with coconut jam, topped with sugar, coconut milk and eggs, panda, sometimes margarine or butter. For this Kaya toast, we think it was just topped with jam and butter, and unfortunately, it wasn't dipped in egg like we were expecting it to be. I also ordered their iced coffee. The food was OK, Kaya toast was ordinary, the coffee was kind of nice. The Nasi Lemak I didn't really like. I guess it's acquired taste. But since it was free, it was OK for us haha.

After the breakfast, we headed on out to Batu Caves. Batu Caves is very accessible thanks to the amazing train lines of Malaysia. So here is how to get to Batu Caves if you are coming from KL Sentral Station:
  • Inside the KL Sentral Station, look for the line that says KTM Komuter. I don't think you'll miss it as it is very big.

  • The KTM Komuter Sign Entrance

  • Beside the entrance of the KTM Komuter is the ticket counter going to Batu Caves. Purchase your tickets or reload your Touch and Go cards. The fare to Batu Caves cost RM2.30 (25php).

  • The KTM Komuter Ticket Counter

  • Enter the station and head to your right, go down the stairs, and look for the sign that says Platform 3. That is where you should be going.

  • Follow the Platform 3 signs

  • Once on the platform, there are signs that says Batu Caves and what time the next train will arrive so just relax and wait for the train to get to Batu Caves. It is the 8th station from KL Sentral. By the way, the KTM Komuter train arrives every 15 minutes during peak hours, and every 20-30 minutes during off peak hours.

The KTM Komuter Line

The train, as always, is very nice and very clean. There is an area where only ladies are allowed to sit in. The train ride from KL Sentral to Batu Caves took about 26 minutes, so you have time to rest for a bit, sleep in, or enjoy the view from the train. We opted to take pictures and play with Po.

Remember that indecent behaviours are a big no no inside the train. As well as littering.

After the quite long, but comfortable train ride, we finally arrived at Batu Caves! Read on for our exploration of the famous Batu Caves!
