The Ultimate Kuala Lumpur-Singapore Vacation Leave: Getting Lost at KL Sentral

This is the third part of our 6-days-5-nights Ultimate KL-Singapore Vacation Leave.

KL Sentral Station

KL Sentral (or Stesen Sentral) is Malaysia's largest transit hub. It is an integrated rail transportation center with a direct link to KLIA, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and other key areas. So you won't get confused, here's a summary of the rail services that serves KL Sentral:
  • Express Rail Link (ERL): High-speed airport train
  • KLIA Express
    KLIA Transit Train

  • KTM Komuter: Klang Valley electric commuter train service
  • Batu Caves-Port Klang Line
    Rawang-Seremban Line

  • KTM intercity trains: Intercity trains that connects from Kuala Lumpur to Tumpat, Johor Bahru, Bangkok and Singapore.

  • Electric Train Service (ETS)
  • Electric transit trains that connects from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh.
Electric express trains that connects from Gemas to Padang Besar.

  • RapidKL Rail
  • Kelana Jaya Line: Putra Heights - Gombak light rail transit (LRT) service
Across the KL Sentral, which is connected by an overhead bridge, is the KL Monorail. Also a mall is connected in the station and there are a lot of food outlets and food court all around. You can also purchase the Touch & Go card in some outlets there so you will have an easier time going in and out the trains.

KL Sentral is quite intimidating for first timers because it's big and there are a lot of people all around. It's really a hub and the center of almost all transportation in Malaysia. So it's quite confusing but once you get the hang of it, it's very, very convenient. There's also free wifi so that's another plus.

We arrived at KL sentral after about 30 minutes. Our plan was to check-in to MyHotel before going to Petronas Twin Towers. Based on our downloaded map, you can walk from KL Sentral to MyHotel. However, we did not anticipate that we would be going down the back area of KL Sentral and not the main hub. We exited from there and we were so confused because there were no walkable roads and only a taxi station was seen there. Apparently, you have to go to the other side of KL Sentral to get to the main hub.

The Main Hub of KL Sentral

Busy Station. The elevator seen here is going straight up to NU Sentral Mall

You can buy Touch & Go cards in any myNEWS.com outlets there. We found one in the center of the station, unfortunately, there were out of stock so we had to look for other outlets. 5 out of 10 chances that the salesman in the outlet would be a Filipino. The one we asked question to, wherein we were having a hard time speaking english, suddenly spoke Tagalog and it was such a relief haha. The outlet we were able to go to was inside the mall, in the basement level.

The Mini Stop equivalent of Malaysia haha

Lots of food being sold in myNEWS.com

After buying essentials, we set off to MyHotel to finally check-in. To go there, just pass through the mall and look for the overhead bridge, cross that bridge, go down the side where the KL monorail is, then just a little walk to get to MyHotel. We thought it was smooth sailing from then, but, we hit a road block yet again haha. Apparently, there are 2 MyHotels near KL Sentral, the MyHotel @ Sentral and the MyHotel @ KL Sentral. We booked at the KL Sentral branch but we went to the Sentral branch (see the difference there?). Fortunately, it was just near so we just needed to walk.

The map showing our mistake and how we corrected it haha

We added the pictures on how to go there as best as we can but it was pictures the day after, we didn't want to get our camera out during the night while walking in a place we weren't familiar yet. We hope this would help and it wouldn't be too confusing

This is the real MyHotel we booked in haha. You can pass through the alleyway beside it to get to the bridge connecting to the mall called NU Sentral and then connecting to KL Sentral

The road we passed in the night before to go to MyHotel @ KL Sentral. Note the overhead straight structure on the background, that's the KL Monorail

The alleyway to NU Sentral which is beside MyHotel and the restaurant where free breakfast is served

The NU Sentral Mall which is connected straight to KL Sentral Station

From the alleyway, if you turn right, you would see this arches design and the escalator going straight to the mall and KL Sentral Station. So if you're coming from the mall, once you get down the elevator, just go straight to the first alleyway and turn right to get to MyHotel

The Overhead bridge connecting to the NU Sentral Mall

Once on top of the elevator, if you turn right you would see the entrance to the KL Monorail...

..and if you turn left, you would immediately see the entrance to the NU Sentral Mall. Then just follow the crowd going to the KL Sentral Station, very hard to miss

So there you go! I hope we gave out clear instructions on how to go to MyHotel @ KL Sentral from the KL Sentral Station and vice versa, and hopefully you won't get lost like we did haha. Most important thing is, it is OK to ask questions, they're very helpful, although some do not know how to speak English.

Back to regular programming, so we were able to check-in without a glitch at MyHotel since we already booked and paid for it online. We requested a room with a window and they gave us just that. It was an OK room, a bit small, but for the price that we were able to get it, it was worth it. And again, there's wifi although a bit slow, but manageable. And there's TV as well, so yehey! We got the room for RM230 with free breakfast included for 2 nights, so approximately 2700php, not at all bad! Upon checking in, you just need to show them your passport and they will have it xeroxed and then off you go.

After dropping our bags and a bit of freshening up, we hurriedly went out to go to one of the places we are really excited to go to, the Petronas Twin Towers!
